ABOUT THE YONGALA
History
On 23 March 1911, 122 passengers onboard the S.S. Yongala were lost at sea. A 7 day search found no trace of the missing vessel, and for almost 50 years the Yongala was lost to the ocean. How the Yongala sank still remains a mystery today.
Marine life
100 years on the ocean floor has allowed the Yongala to develop into its own ecosystem, and the wreck is now home to hundreds of different species of fish, rays, turtles and corals.
